Atomic bomb
- The atomic bomb was invented by many physicists and was then used at the end of the war for bombing the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These bombs were probably the deadliest weapons used in a war, and it wiped out 90% of Japan's population and those who survived died later of radiation poisoning.
Poison gas
- Poison gas was introduced before WW2 and in the middle of the first World War and used frequently in both wars. It caused more casualties in the first world war, because the opposing forces that were being attacked with the poison gas had advanced clothing that protected them. Some of the soldiers were not so lucky because either they didn't have the gear or they could not get to it fast enough.
Tanks
- These moving pieces of armor were super high advancements in the war because they could not be harmed by regular ammunition fired from small arms. It provided heavy support for infantry troops with machine gun fire and used a cannon which was deadly to troops and to bunkers. The tank could only be destroyed by rocket launchers and grenade launchers and other tanks. Almost every other country in the war had a number of tanks.
Anti-aircraft weapons
- These giant guns were used for taking hostile planes out of the sky to protect against bombings. Since so much more fire could come out of a plane, anti-aircraft guns were needed to protect soldiers and military warehouses.
Machine guns
- Machine guns were a blowout of an invention, as they became more popular and more countries started manufacturing them. The Thompson or "Tommy gun" was the first machine gun manufactured by the U.S. The gun was mainly used during the Battle of Iwo Jima against Japanese forces. Other countries invented the sub machine gun, the British invented the Sten which was a poorly made gun, and the Germans made the MP40.
